Critical Northeast is an open space for reflection, critique, and imagination. We invite contributions from scholars, writers, artists, journalists, and citizens who feel for the region we call home.
We welcome essays, personal reflections, creative works, reviews, and conversations that go beyond stereotypes and silences, and that speak to the complexity of the Northeast. Whether you are writing about politics, ecology, history, culture, migration, or everyday life, we encourage clarity, originality, and honesty.

Submission Guidelines
We welcome contributions from scholars, writers, artists, journalists, and citizens who wish to reflect critically on the Northeast. Our platform is interdisciplinary and experimental- we value rigor, originality, and clarity over jargon or academic gatekeeping.
What we publish
- Essays / Articles: Analytical pieces on politics, history, culture, ecology, migration, and other issues. (1,200-1,500 words)
- Reflections / Voices: Personal narratives, commentaries, creative nonfiction, and experimental writing. (1,000–1,200 words)
- Reviews: Books, films, art, or cultural productions relevant to the Northeast. (1,000-1,200 words)
- Creative Work: Poetry, short fiction, photo essays, visual narratives. (Flexible, discuss with editors first)
Formatting and Style
- Send your submission as a Word document (.doc or .docx).
- Use clear, accessible language. Avoid unnecessary jargon, but ensure arguments are well-reasoned.
- Citations (if needed) should be in EPW style. Hyperlinks are welcome for references to online sources.
- Please include a short bio (2–3 sentences) with your submission.
Editorial Process
- All submissions will be reviewed by the editorial team.
- We may suggest revisions to improve clarity, coherence, or accessibility.
- Accepted pieces will be lightly copy-edited for style and consistency.
Rights and Ethics
- Contributors retain copyright of their work. By submitting, you grant Critical Northeast the right to publish it on our website.
- Ensure originality. If parts of your work have been published elsewhere, please mention this at the time of submission.
- Respectful engagement is a must. We do not publish hate speech, discriminatory content, or plagiarism.
